Ah, the Polydactyls were huge at the Roxy last night (thanks to everybody who came). The experience of it was one of the coolest things I've done yet. We got there, loaded in, I talked to the booker and sound guy, ate dinner, and were ready to go by 6:45. Of course, the boys weren't playing until 11, so we had hours of boredom ahead. Luckily, we got all-access passes, allowing us to chill backstage with the other bands. And, oh, what shitty bands. Never in my life have a seen such a sad amalgamation of horrible nu-metal and pop-punk. And they all thought they were so cool, too (like we did, of course). The high point of the night was hearing the guitarist for Bleed The Sky bitch about playing with a bunch of shitty kid bands, then proceeding to rip the most obnoxious set of derivative numetal that I ever cared to see. That's not true: the high point of the night was talking to the absolutely hilarious and stoned light guy, Belo, who promised us a spectacular light show. "Give me a set list," he said in a vaguely Eastern European accent, "and I will get good inspiration." He didn't deliver on the discoball for "Zombie Apocalypse," but he was rad nonetheless.
If you didn't make it, don't sweat it, because they'll be playing again soon. However, it was indeed the best set the Polydactyls have played yet. Something about the preponderance of good people who paid $8 and came out in the rain to show their support; it really made me happy. Oddly, there were more people from 30th St. than from Menlo, but it was good to see all (or most of) our friends anyway. And of course, Adina Savin in the role of proud mother was fantastic. She's my all time favorite friend's mom.
